If the rate at which the mining & minerals division of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) Secunda branch analyses core samples from coal exploration drilling is anything to go by, there is hardly a shortage of greenfields’ exploration projects in South Africa.
At mining conference s we often hear the same refrain: there is a dearth of exploration projects in South Africa. That might be the case for gold or iron ore, but the exploration business for coal is alive and kicking, in fact, it appears to be thriving.
